IAQFP Code of Ethics

All those authorized by IAQFP to use the QFP Designation agree to be bound by the following Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct, and to at all times employ it in their client relationships. 

All QFP are provided a listing in the QFP Verification Registry, at no charge, so that the public can readily verify their credentials. Member listed QFP accept still higher requirements of IAQFP Membership and these QFP can generally be distinguished within the QFP Verification Registry with a listing that includes full contact information as well as a Services Description detailing their areas of specialization.

The public benefits from these standards when verifying & selecting only Financial Planner QFP who are listed in the QFP Verification Registry of Qualified Financial Planners, since they are subject to oversight and disciplinary action by the IAQFP Ethics Committee & Board of Directors upon notice of any alleged violation of the following Code and/or other standards of Membership as applicable. Such quality standards contribute to IAQFP having such high levels of public confidence & satisfaction.

  • I will strive to do no harm, placing client interests above my own, giving them the same level of service I would give to myself in similar circumstances.
  • I will diversify my continuing education to cover a broad and integrative spectrum of financial planning topics to include risk management (i.e. insurance), investments, taxation, retirement plans, employee benefits, and estate planning, of not less than 15 credit hours annually, or 30 hours every two years (retirees exempted).
  • I will adhere to the laws, regulations, licenses, and ethics that are applicable to me in the services I render.
  • I will disclose the method of my compensation prior to entering into a formal agreement.

All QFP are further subject to the QFP Usage Requirements , Advertising Guidelines & Continuing Professional Education Requirements. All Member QFP are also subject to these requirements plus the added standards of IAQFP Membership.

Consumers are strongly cautioned to verify anyone presenting themselves as a Financial Planner, and to do so through a free public resource provided by IAQFP; namely, the QFP Verification Registry located at:  www.iaqfp.org/qfp_registry.html .  Only QFP in good standing are listed within the QFP Verification Registry.
