Q: I have completed a CFP Board approved educational program, and I have received a Certificate of Completion to sit for the separate CFP® comprehensive certification Exam. Am I eligible for Membership? A: NO. As of 6/26/2004 IAQFP no longer accepts you under these conditions. You must earn the actual designation from the CFP Board. Q: I do not hold any of your acceptable designations, but I am an RFC, or I hold any number of other non-Financial Planning designations. Can I still qualify for IAQFP Membership? A: Not unless you have earned one of more of the designations we presently accept; namely, ChFC®, CFP®, PFS, MSFS, or MS (the latter two with a concentration in Financial Planning). We suggest that you look to either the American College or the College for Financial Planning to complete your Educational and Exam requirements. Q: What if I am a student at the American College who has completed all 5 of the core courses required for the CFP® Certificate of Completion, but I haven’t completed either the ChFC, or sat for and passed the CFP Board Comprehensive Exam? A: You are NOT eligible to be a Member of IAQFP. You must first earn your designation. Q: What if I am a CLU and I have completed all 5 of the core courses required for the CFP® Certificate of Completion. Am I eligible for Membership? A: You are NOT eligible to be a Member of IAQFP. You must first earn your designation. Q: What if I have an educational designation that has a broader educational requirement than the CFP® designation, but is not listed on your acceptable designation list? A: If you have a designation that you can prove covers all the same educational subjects as required by the CFP Board for the CFP® designation, and under a modular testing criteria by an independent certifying authority, please send your information to our Education Chair for review and possible inclusion as one of our recognized Financial Planning designations.
