QFP Designation Usage Requirements & Advertising Guidelines

I.   QFP Designation Usage Requirements

QFP (Qualified Financial Planner) is the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION of QUALIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS (IAQFP) professional designation signifying one who is qualified, through IAQFP standards of education, exam, experience, and ethics, as a Qualified Financial Planner.

All who are granted and authorized to use the QFP designation are governed by and agree to be bound by the following:

  • A QFP will adhere to the IAQFP Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct.
  • A QFP will maintain required professional continuing education requirements of not less than fifteen hours annually, or 30 hours bi-annually, with topics integrated across all Financial Planning subject areas.
  • A QFP agrees to regulatory oversight by the IAQFP Ethics Committee & Board, and to the Disciplinary Procedures & Complaint Process of IAQFP.
  • A QFP will adhere to the QFP Usage Requirements , Advertising Guidelines & Continuing Professional Education Requirements
  • A QFP will self-monitor his/her conduct for compliance with all IAQFP requirements, and is responsible to provide advance written notice to IAQFP if he/she becomes non-compliant in any manner or form whatsoever.  Non-compliance discovered through any means may result in suspension and/or revocation of IAQFP Membership and removal from the QFP Verification Registry of Qualified Financial Planners, based upon the circumstantial facts as determined by the IAQFP Board & Ethics Committee.
  • Member QFP will remain in good standing with IAQFP, and continually abide by the extra terms and conditions of IAQFP Membership that also include all of the above standards.

II.  QFP Designation Usage Advertising Guidelines

Accepted forms of QFP usage are:

John A. Doe, QFP or John A. Doe, QFP - Qualified Financial Planner

When using any of the other Financial Planning specific designations that we accept for QFP we ask that QFP be placed at the beginning of the credentials line. For other types of designations that indicate areas of specialization (i.e. like CLU, JD, CPA), list them following the QFP designation and all other Financial Planning designations as in:

When used along with other designations that are all Financial Planning designations:

John A. Doe, QFP, ChFC, CFP®, PFS, MSFS, MS

When used along with other Financial Planning designations & specialization designations:

John A. Doe, QFP, ChFC, CLU
